Would you like to be part of the next generation of artists, designers, engineers and scientists creating, making and exploring the playground of the future?
We’re delighted to announce PROTOTYPE, a new open call to support artists, designers and creatives who are curious to explore, learn, work with and/or respond to science and technology within their creative practice. The deadline for applications is 5pm May 29th 2020 please see details and how to apply below.
Prototype 2020: Open Call
We are seeking artists, designers and creatives who would like to join a community of scientists, engineers, creatives, and producers who are interested in designing, creating and exploring the playground of the future and engaging audiences in new ways.
The essence of the Prototype Open Call is to support participants to develop an idea, explore, experiment and prototype that idea in some format with a real audience. The format is flexible.
Participants of the programme will receive a prototyping grant of €2,000 (which includes all fees and prototype materials) to experiment, explore and prototype a project/idea that will be presented at The Festival of Curiosity 2020 in July.
As part of the programme participants will receive support from a vibrant community of local and international creatives, scientists, engineers, futurists, technologists, festival makers and producers.
Tailored to each participant’s specific needs, this step-by-step accelerator programme will be designed to support individuals to explore their creative practice in a new way and be supported to bring a new project idea to life by having the opportunity to prototype it in a supported environment. This could be something brand new or it could be previous work or project re-imagined in a new way. The format, the practice and the intended audience is flexible.
What we are looking for
We are welcoming individuals with an established creative practice but who are interested in exploring science, technology and engineering themes or ideas within their work.
For the application we don’t expect you to have a fully formed project that you would like to work on but we would expect applicants to have a clear concept, idea, format or theme that they would like to explore.
Based on your application we will tailor your support in the programme, and find how to best help support you to develop your idea and bring a prototype of that idea to life.
At the festival this year we are also embarking on our own experiment in creating a new digital format and presentation for the festival this summer. We are in unprecedented times but we are leaning in to the challenge of experimenting, exploring and thinking of new creative ways that we can reach, engage and create curious experiences for people at home or virtually. We understand that some formats don’t initially appear to lend themselves well to a digital format and may even feel impossible. Please don’t let that deter you from submitting an application and starting the conversation.
