Future Oceans: Igniting a global community of designers spotlighting the ocean plastic crisis
ONLINE PANEL DISCUSSION
Join the team behind the Future Oceans Project based in Canada – Victoria International Marina, Natural Talent Alliance and The Ocean Legacy Foundation as they discuss and showcase how artists and designers can create change through their work, inspire activism toward environmental conservation and project our oceans.
Hosted by Future Oceans Creative Director Catherine Larose, this round-table discussion will include Chloe Dubois of The Ocean Legacy Foundation, Samm Brunner and Sydney Lunt Future Ocean Designers, Everline Aboka Canadian Top Model, and Alan Donnelly Future Oceans Music Director.
In 2019, ten fashion designers were selected from an international design competition and featured in Future Oceans, a one-of-a-kind fashion show at the Victoria International Marina, that spotlights the ocean plastic waste crisis while proposing sustainable solutions.
The designers spent 5 months creating wearable art pieces featuring reclaimed ocean plastic from beaches and oceans. They also launched ready-to-wear fashion lines using eco-friendly fabrics, which they debuted at The Bay Centre Victoria during their one month long Eco-Boutique. During this time, musicians worked on a Future Oceans soundtrack, and dancers from the Nanaimo Contemporary ballet produced the first Future Oceans dance performance titled “Plastic Whale”.
