Art, Archaeology & The Seasons

1024 1024 Carolyn Croke

Join us for a family drawing workshop inspired by the archaeology of ancient sites with Duffy Mooney Sheppard.

Across the world, there are ancient buildings that were built to track the changing of the seasons. In Ireland we have Newgrange and the Carrowkeel tombs – the roof boxes capture the light of the sun to track the summer and winter solstice. Let’s explore!

In this workshop, we will look at the ancient artwork found at these sites and explore the changing seasons to create a drawings that celebrates the Summer season. Let’s draw swirling spirals, concentric circles, and repeating diamonds!

What you will need for this workshop
  • A few sheets of paper of any size or colour
  • Sellotape or Pritt stick
  • Materials to draw with – whatever you have
About Duffy Mooney-Sheppard:
Duffy is a visual artist, arts program curator and workshop facilitator. A recent graduate of the MA Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Arts, she is drawn to the process of story-making as a way to explore ideas and share her curiosity about the natural world. With many years of experience working creatively with young people at The Ark and many other cultural institutions and schools, she has developed her facilitation methods which are based in playful observation, imagination and telling tall tales. This year, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, she founded Little Islands Art Club, an online art groups for children and adults. Find out more at: www.duffydraws.com
