Upcycled Seashore Craft Workshop

#ScienceWeek #VirtualEvent

Join Fashion Designer Rebecca Marsden for an online upcycling workshop for families. This workshop is recommended for ages 13+ but families are welcome to attend together with adult supervision.

In this workshop, we will be making our own DIY looms out of cardboard and leaning how to weave with recycled materials. We encourage you to collect scraps of fabric and found objects in the lead up to this workshop, you can use these materials in your weaving pattern.

The coastline is our inspiration for this workshop, when collecting materials, think of all the different colours and objects you might see on the seashore, feathers, pebbles, twigs etc. See what materials you can find around the house or in the garden!

During this workshop, as part of the Creating our Future campaign, we invite you to share your  ideas for the future of fashion sustainability in Ireland, or any other big ideas you have that might inspire researchers in Ireland.

Materials Needed

  • Loom Base (Click here for instructions on how to prepare)
  • Lollipop stick
  • Scissors
  • Selection of wool yarns –  we suggest colours that you see along the seashore!
  • Fabric scraps – to shred during the workshop
  • Beads and sequins – if you like a bit of sparkle
  • Small Found materials – what might you find on the beach? Collect things from the shore or around the house that we can weave into our creations. Rope, seaweed, feathers, leaves, twigs, tiny shells, netting etc.
